South Devon Area of Natural Beauty Photo Competition

2013 Photo Competition: My AONB

The AONB was designated by government in 1960 and is recognised as one of England's finest landscapes.  The AONB unit is managed by a 'not for profit' partnership set up to take care of the area. AONBs are wonderful for wildlife and scenery but are also places where people live, work, relax and take care of the countryside.  Further information about our work can by found at

By entering our competition you can show us what you think is special about this area.  We'd love to know more about the way individuals and communities spend their time whether working, playing or exploring!

Only images taken within or looking into  the AONB qualify. Underwater  coastal shots are acceptable if they are within  close proximity of the AONB coastline. Please see the map to find out the area of South Devon that is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Judges tips

Our judge's panel has suggested the following when taking your images:

First and foremost - Enjoy your photograph, but for successful photography, factors to think about are..

  • Exposure - watch for highlights and deep shadows
  • Focus - if it needs to be sharp, make sure it is
  • Composition - Make sure that all in the frame needs to be there, and is in the right place.

All photographic rules are made to be broken, don't think the first shot will always be the best, look for a different way to photograph the same thing, it may work better...

Following short-listing by the judges the public will vote for their favourite image in each category via this website.
